Getting started

IP Raccoon scores, classifies, and monitors IP addresses in real time. This guide walks you through your first request.

Create an account

If you don't already have an account, sign up via the dashboard and verify your email — the account stays disabled until the address is verified. Once you log in, you can find your API key in the board's Credentials panel. API keys, not your account password, is what authenticates every request below to the API. A default key will be created for the account account, but you can create additional ones or revoke them.

Your first lookup

Make a request with the IP address you want to be assesed to the /ip endpoint. The API key must be sent in the Authorization header as is, with no Bearer prefix:

curl 'https://api.ipraccoon.com/ip/8.8.8.8' \
  -H "Authorization: $YOUR_IP_RACCOON_API_KEY" \
  -H 'Accept: application/json'

The response will contain the assessment of the IP, including which risk categories the address is flagged as, and what is known about it:

{
  "ip": "8.8.8.8",
  "risks": {},
  "network": {
    "asn": 15169,
    "as": "GOOGLE",
    "isp": "Google LLC",
    "org": "Google Public DNS",
    "networkType": "Unknown"
  },
  "location": { "country": "US", "city": "Mountain View", "latitude": 37.4223, "longitude": -122.0841 }
}
FieldTypeDescription
ipstringThe address that was scored, echoed back
risksobject | nullRisk flags on the address — empty means checked and clean
networkobject | nullWho operates the address and how it connects
locationobject | nullWhere it geolocates — null when out of coverage

Each lookup draws one credit from your balance — the Enterprise Interface panel's Usage card shows what is left, and its Request Protocol card has a ready-to-copy cURL request with your token already filled in.
